Colorpoint

The color point pattern in a Ragdoll is characterized by dark colors on the “points” – these are the ears, muzzle, legs, and tail. The rest of the body is lighter in color, creating a clear contrast between the points and the body. This pattern is similar to that of a Siamese and highlights the typical, subtle color gradient of the Ragdoll.

Coloring and Points

  1. Face (mask): The face of a colorpoint Ragdoll has a dark colored mask that extends completely over the muzzle and eyes. This mask should be clear and in harmony with the rest of the points, without extending too far to the chest or neck.
  2. Ears: The ears have the same dark color as the rest of the points and should be a uniform color with no lighter spots or patterns. The color is deep and forms a nice contrast to the lighter body. There should be no white on the ears.
  3. Legs: The front and hind legs are colored in the same dark shade as the mask and ears. The color of the paws may vary in intensity, but should match well with the other points.
  4. Tail: The tail is colored completely dark and has the same color as the other points. The color is even and without lighter rings or markings, and the tail has a thick, full coat that contributes to the typical Ragdoll appearance. There should be no white in the tail.

Body color

The body color of a color point Ragdoll is lighter than the points depending on the base color (such as seal, blue, chocolate, etc.). The lighter body color provides a nice contrast to the points and creates the classic color point effect. The body color can vary slightly, but should always be lighter than the points.

Color of the Nose slit and Paw pads

  • Nose Slit: The nose slit of a colorpoint Ragdoll must be the same dark color as the points. For example:
    • In a seal colorpoint, the rhinarium is dark brown to almost black.
    • A blue colorpoint has a blue-gray nose.
    • The nose of a chocolate colorpoint has a warm chocolate brown tint.
    • In a lilac colorpoint the nose slit is light pinkish gray.
  • Paw pads: The pads under the paws of a colorpoint Ragdoll should be the same shade as the nose leather and the other points, contributing to the uniform look of the colorpoint pattern.
    • Seal colorpoint: dark brown to almost black paw pads.
    • Blue colorpoint: blue-gray foot pads.
    • Chocolate colorpoint: warm, dark chocolate brown pads.
    • Lilac colorpoint: light pink-gray foot soles.

Mitted

The mitted pattern is a variation within the Ragdoll breed in which the cat has a combination of colored points and white markings. This pattern is unique in that it includes white “mittens” on the front legs and white “booties” on the back legs, along with a white belly stripe and a white chin. The mitted Ragdoll retains the dark points on the face, ears, tail and parts of the paws, as in a colorpoint Ragdoll, but has an additional white chin that contributes to a special and striking appearance.

Coloring and Points

  1. Face (mask): The mask has a dark color as in a colorpoint, but must have a completely white chin. The chin must not have a colored spot. A white blaze (vertical white stripe on the forehead and across the nose) is permitted, but not required. The blaze should lie neatly in the center of the face and be even, contributing to the symmetrical appearance.
  2. Ears: The ears are dark colored, like the other points, and have an even color. There should be no white spots on the ears.
  1. Legs:
    • Front paws: The forelegs should have white “mitts” that are uniform and do not extend above the wrist joint. The mitts should be neat and well aligned for a symmetrical appearance. All toes must be white. There should be no ascending triangles starting from the mittens at the back of the forelegs. There should be no dark spots in the white mittens.
    • Hind legs: The hind legs should have white “booties” that extend to at least the heel joint and no more than halfway up the thigh. The bootlets should be the same height on both sides and evenly spaced. A small spot may be present in the white of the hind feet.
  1. Tail: The tail has the same dark color as the other points and is uniformly colored. The tail should not have any white spots.

Body color

The body of a mitted Ragdoll is lighter in color than the points, depending on the base color (e.g. seal, blue, chocolate, etc.). The belly should have a continuous white stripe running from the chin to the base of the tail, which is characteristic of the mitted pattern. The white stripe should not be interrupted and no dark spots should be present.

Color of the Nose slit and Paw pads

  • Nose slit: The nose slit of a mitted Ragdoll may be pink or the same dark color as the points, as in a color point Ragdoll.
    • Seal mitted: dark brown to almost black.
    • Blue mitted: blue gray.
    • Chocolate mitted: warm chocolate brown shade.
    • Lilac mitted: light pinkish gray.
  • Paw pads: The pads should be pink.

Bicolor

The bicolor pattern in a Ragdoll is a distinctive and popular pattern in which the cat has a combination of colored points and white markings on the face, paws, belly, and chest. The mask of a bicolor Ragdoll has an inverted “V” shaped white spot, while the ears, tail, and parts of the paws retain the colored points. This pattern has high contrast and gives the cat a charming, almost “mask-like” appearance.

Coloring and Points

  1. Face (mask):
    • The face must have a distinct inverted “V” shaped white mark, starting from the forehead and extending across the nose and mouth. The “V” must be well defined and symmetrical and must not extend beyond the eyes. No colored spot should be present in the white “V”.
    • The rest of the mask outside the “V” has the same color as the points (e.g. seal, blue, chocolate, etc.)
  1. Ears: The ears are fully colored to match the points. There should be no white spots on the ears.
  2. Paws: All four paws must be white, with the white color continuing to the groin on the inside of the hind legs. The white legs are characteristic of the bicolor pattern and should be symmetrical. A small colored spot on the white hind legs is allowed.
  3. Tail:The tail has the same dark color as the other points and should be fully colored with no white spots.

Body color

The body should be a soft, even color. The belly and chest should be completely white. There should not be a dark spot in them.
